Prime position: Securing your place next to Ballarat’s $55 million Intermodal Freight Hub

Estimated reading time: 3–4 minutes

Located within the Ballarat West Employment Zone (BWEZ), the hub will provide direct road, rail and future air connectivity, supporting the movement of an estimated 15,000 containers a year to the Port of Melbourne, with capacity for future expansion. The project is jointly funded by the Victorian and Australian Governments, each contributing $27.75 million, and is expected to be completed in late 2026. It includes three kilometres of new rail track, new sidings and signalling, upgraded freight handling facilities, and supporting drainage, lighting and access infrastructure.

Federal Infrastructure Minister Catherine King has described the precinct as one that will “future-proof BWEZ by providing road, rail and future air connectivity all in one precinct”, positioning it as a strong “drawcard for businesses wanting to locate here” in Ballarat.

A Strategic Opportunity for Business

MKM Building Group owns a site directly opposite the new Intermodal Freight Hub, and we’re offering commercial and industrial land and building packages for businesses looking to make the most of this investment in the region.

Whether you need a warehouse and distribution facility, a manufacturing plant, a transport and logistics depot, a trade supply outlet, an office and warehouse combination, or a custom industrial development, we can deliver a fully designed turnkey solution tailored to your operational requirements.

Why This Location Matters

The site sits within BWEZ, directly across the road from the Intermodal Freight Hub, with access to the Ballarat–Ararat rail line and the Port of Melbourne. It’s well connected by road throughout Ballarat and western Victoria, and sits within one of regional Victoria’s fastest-growing industrial precincts.

For businesses that rely on freight movement, the benefits are tangible: lower freight costs, reduced emissions from increased rail capability, and long-term investment potential backed by significant government infrastructure spending.

Designed Around Your Business

At MKM, we don’t offer a one-size-fits-all product. Depending on what you need, we can provide land and building packages, concept design and master planning, town planning coordination, structural and civil engineering, and warehouse and logistics facility design, scaled to suit anything from a smaller industrial unit through to a major distribution or manufacturing facility.

Be a Part of Ballarat’s Next Industrial Growth Story

Major businesses including George Weston Foods and CHS Broadbent have already committed to the precinct, recognising the strategic advantages of the location. With the Freight Hub now under construction, demand for well-located industrial land in BWEZ is expected to grow as more businesses look to take advantage of improved freight connectivity.

If you’re considering a new warehouse, logistics facility, manufacturing plant or commercial development, now is the time to look at securing a position next to one of regional Victoria’s most significant freight infrastructure projects.
