Multi-purpose pavilion designed for the Ballarat Agricultural Society, supporting livestock events, exhibitions, and community gatherings year-round.
Project Overview
The Ballarat Showgrounds Pavilion was designed and built by MKM Building Group to serve as a flexible, multi-purpose space for the Ballarat Agricultural Society and the broader community.
Located at the Ballarat Showgrounds, the new pavilion brings together a wide range of functions under one roof. It’s used for everything from livestock shows and agricultural events to caravan expos, exhibitions, and live music performances.
During our collaboration with the Ballarat Agricultural Society to build the pavilion, there were a lot of stakeholders involved in the design process and the intended use of the building. One major challenge was adapting the pavilion to meet the diverse requirements of each group involved. Livestock groups needed specific layouts, access to water, and power, while event organisers required large, open areas for crowds and equipment. Through ongoing collaboration and smart design decisions, the team created a layout that works for everyone.
Project Success and Impact
A big part of this project’s success was how well everyone worked together. From early design meetings to the final build, MKM stayed focused on making sure the pavilion would be genuinely useful to all its future users—not just on paper, but in real life.
As the building started to take shape, the Agricultural Society made several requests for small changes and optional extras—things that weren’t obvious until they saw the space coming to life. Our site manager, Richard Meerbach, collaborated closely with Tim Wright and the Agricultural Society to address these requests. As a result, we successfully constructed an office and pavilion that we are proud of, and which serves their intended purpose well being a valuable community asset.
