Project Overview

For several years, the Hertz Trucks Ballarat team had been operating out of a demountable portable office, a setup that had long outgrown the needs of a growing fleet operation. When the decision was made to upgrade, they turned to MKM Building Group to design and construct a permanent facility that would serve them for years to come.

The finished building brings together a professional customer-facing office, a purpose-built wash bay capable of handling vehicles as big as 13 tonnes, and staff amenities, all on their existing Ballarat site. The new wash bay in particular has been a game-changer for the team; the original facility was only ever designed for cars, leaving detailers exposed to the elements and limiting what fleet they could accommodate. Now, the full range of Hertz trucks can be washed, maintained, and presented to a much higher standard, and the covered space means detailers are no longer working in the rain and wind.

Project Success & Impact

One of the more complex aspects of this project was that the Hertz Ballarat site remained fully operational throughout the entire construction period. MKM staged the works carefully, completing the new wash bay first so Hertz always had a working facility available. Rather than days of downtime, the transition came down to hours: disconnecting power to the old wash bay and flicking it across to the new one.

Communication from the MKM team was consistent throughout, keeping Hertz informed of access requirements, timing, and any periods where parts of the site would be impacted. The result: Hertz did not need to downscale, reduce their fleet, or put staff off. They remained 100% operational from start to finish.
