Project Overview

MKM Building Group was appointed as the successful tenderer, designer, and builder for the Lara Baseball and Multisport Pavilion, awarded by the City of Greater Geelong.

The 600-square-metre pavilion was designed to be both functional and welcoming. Key features include:

• A versatile social and multipurpose room.
• Two kitchens with a shared servery.
• Four amenities and changerooms.
• Two umpire rooms.
• A timekeeper’s room.
• A first aid room.
• Dedicated areas for sport viewing and storage.

The design embraces a minimalist approach, with clean, open interiors and raked ceilings to create a sense of space. On the exterior, modern materials such as Exotec, Cemintel, and Metrospan were used to achieve a contemporary yet timeless look. The standout architectural feature is the roof, which peaks at 6 metres and has a 15-degree pitch over the football changerooms, adding visual impact and presence.

Project success and impact

The Lara Baseball and Multisport Pavilion has become a central hub for sport and community gatherings. By combining facilities for three different sporting codes, the building encourages collaboration, inclusivity, and shared pride among local clubs.

Delivering the project on time and to specification meant that the City of Greater Geelong could quickly offer an upgraded space that meets the needs of players, officials, and spectators alike. The flexible design allows the venue to host sporting events, social functions, and community activities, maximising its value year-round.

For Lara residents, the pavilion is more than just a sports facility — it’s a place to connect, celebrate, and enjoy local events together. Its thoughtful design, durable materials, and quality construction ensure it will continue to serve the community for many years to come.
