Showing Up Again. MKM’s 2026 Biggest Morning Tea

Estimated reading time: 2–3 minutes

On Thursday 21 May, MKM hosted the Cancer Council’s Biggest Morning Tea for the third year running. The morning looked familiar in the best way. Home baking, good coffee, and a crowd of staff, family, friends, and contractors gathered around a cause that matters.

This year, Alison Lamb, who has led the event at MKM since the beginning, set an ambitious goal of $3,000. The MKM community raised $5,987.00

That result didn’t happen by accident. It happened because people went above and beyond. Baking from scratch, donating generously, and showing up on a Thursday morning not because it was on a job list, but because it meant something to them. That result is a reflection of the people MKM is fortunate to work with, a team and a network that brings the same generosity to everything they do, on site and off it.

A morning tea might seem a world away from a construction site, but the values that make one work are the same ones that make the other worth being part of.

Construction is an industry that moves fast. Taking time to pause, connect, and be present with each other, not around a deadline, but around a shared cause, is something we think is worth protecting. Three years in, this event has become part of how MKM shows up beyond the build.

We’re a little late publishing this, and we won’t pretend otherwise. But the sentiment doesn’t have an expiry date. Cancer continues to affect people in our team, our networks, and our communities, and the work of supporting those affected carries on regardless of the calendar.

To Alison, thank you for leading this with the same care and commitment you bring to everything else. Three years and counting.

To everyone who contributed, attended, and gave, you made a real difference.
